Biography

Sharvil Nanavati

Principal Software Engineer

Sharvil Nanavati wrote his first PC operating system when he was 15. Since then, technology has permeated every aspect of his life and he has never looked back.

An entrepreneur at heart, he co-founded Sydus in 2003 during his undergraduate years. There, he built a mobile music streaming service for all manners of then-smartphones and launched the first 3G mobile radio station with Virgin Radio.

His early forays in computer architecture led him to Microsoft, where he developed the memory virtualization algorithm for Microsoft Hyper-V. This technology went on to power Windows-based server virtualization platforms like Microsoft Azure.

Prior to Playground, Sharvil was with Google where he built cross-functional teams on Glass and Android Wear. These teams were designed to “hit well above their weight”, he says, adding “a small group of people can achieve spectacular results in the right environment.” His teams developed novel eye-gesture features for Glass and brought the first Android-based cellular smartwatch from just an idea to customers’ hands in 6 months.

Now, Sharvil is a mentor and force-multiplier for our portfolio companies, and helps bring their ideas to life. From advising leaders to designing systems to accelerating product development, he’s always ready to dive in head-first.
