As Chief Financial Officer, Kristin Beach is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Playground and its fund. She has over 20 years of finance and operating experience, most recently working in the Venture Capital Industry.
“To accept a role in a startup, you need to be prepared to deal with the unexpected and have a flexible mind-set as the business evolves, “ she says.
Prior to joining Playground, Kristin was vice president of finance at Glynn Capital. She was also vice president of finance at Versant Ventures, and had earlier served as their controller. Previously, Kristin was controller for Enterprise Fleet Management, a division of Enterprise Rent-a-Car.
At Enterprise, she enjoyed being “in the weeds with all aspects of the business,” growing the company’s Northern California operations and leading the integration of numerous technology upgrades.
She feels the same way about her role at Playground.
“Everyone is collaborative and really engaged here,” she says. “It's nice to have that positive energy on a daily basis.”
While the fortunes of the tech industry have taken more than one dramatic turn since Kristin came to Silicon Valley in 1999, she says people are savvier and more realistic about what a company, idea, or product needs to succeed.
“There's still that great entrepreneurial spirit here,” she says. “There's so much talent. The possibilities are endless.”
