Guocong Song

Data Scientist

Data Scientist Guocong Song works on distributed data-processing platforms and machine-learning algorithms at Playground.

Along with “machine learning,” Guocong is intrigued by “deep learning,” which he describes as “a fast-moving technology area—very hard, but with the promise of helping machines approach human levels of intelligence.”

Guocong’s experience includes work on real-time ad bidding, click-through rate prediction, social-network analytics, probabilistic data structures, and algorithms for MapReduce and streaming. He is a five-time winner of data science competitions on Kaggle.

Prior to his work in data science, Guocong focused on communication and network theory. He co-authored “Energy and Spectrum Efficient Wireless Network Design,” an award-winning book published by Cambridge University Press that has been instrumental in the development of modern wireless networks.

Guocong has a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computing Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University. His hobbies include machine-learning competitions, photography, and home IT infrastructure.
