Biography

George Ketigian

Senior Prototyping Engineer

When Senior Prototyping Engineer George Ketigian interviewed at Playground, he brought along a few machined parts he’d made. Some had flown to space.

As an Avionics Responsible Engineer at SpaceX, George designed and built electrical hardware that flew on the Falcon 9 launch vehicle, as well as supported launches. While at SpaceX he gained access to a full-sized CNC mill, a computer-controlled machine weighing thousands of pounds and capable of sculpting parts out of blocks of material.

“I was probably the only engineer that ventured onto that machine,” George says. “I remember thinking, ‘This is super cool. I can design something in CAD and immediately fabricate it with incredible accuracy.'"

George is now building out Playground’s manufacturing capabilities, developing workflows, and working with startups to help manifest their ideas and produce prototypes. He’s looking forward to using Playground’s Datron CNC machine and slew of 3D printing technology to make prototypes from a wide variety of media.

“We're putting together a really nice spectrum of machinery,” George says. “The goal is to be able to tackle any project that comes through the door.”
